We are a retail store that wants to convey Japan’s history, traditions and art. In Japan there are traditions cultivated since age-old times, stories about great man that were active during the shifting times, and artists that crated astonishing masterpieces. We hope to help conceive something unseen by letting the people living in the present know about these stories.
Bankohdoh’s owner and photographer Takashi Kuriyama has been travelling to assorted local regions throughout Japan, learning about the history unique to the territory and capturing the landscape. Bankohdoh handles articles that were developed inspired by the items that he has come across while travelling or historical stories that he has discovered.

私たち晩香堂は日本の歴史や伝統、芸術文化を伝える小売商店です。日本には、長い年月をかけて育まれてきた伝統や、時代の変革期に活躍した偉人とそのエピソード、そして美しい作品を創り出してきた芸術家達がいます。私たちは、そのようなストーリーを今を生きる人たちに伝え、新しい何かを生み出すきっかけになることを願っています。
晩香堂のオーナー兼フォトグラファー栗山喬は、日本中のローカル地域を旅して、その土地ならではの歴史を学び風景を撮影し続けています。晩香堂では、彼が旅をしながら見つけた商品や、学んだ歴史的エピソードを元に開発したオリジナル商品などを取り揃えています。
